What is the difference between type 1 diabetes and type 2?

Type 1: An autoimmune condition in which the body does not produce insulin, a hormone needed to initiate the sugar from the bloodstream into cells for energy. It is usually diagnosed in young children.

Type 2: The most common type in adults: do not produce enough insulin or the body does not respond properly to it. It is not an autoimmune condition, and is associated with obesity because fat cells are more resistant to insulin.
